The Ampelmann is a ship-based self stabilizing platform that actively compensates all vessel motions to make offshore personnel transfer safe, easy and fast. The base of the Ampelmann is mounted on the deck of the vessel or barge and takes care of the motion compensation, keeping the top side of the Ampelmann stationary. The gangway, which is mounted on the top side, can now easily be deployed onto the stationary offshore structure enabling safe offshore crew transfer. Using an Ampelmann reduces the necessity for jack-ups, semi-subs and helicopters, making it a safe and cost effective alternative for offshore crew transfers.
The Ampelmann Company is a high-tech offshore company focusing on the development, construction, lease and sale of offshore access solutions. The company was founded in 2007 as a spin-off of the Delft University of Technology. The core technology is the Ampelmann system, a motion compensation platform that allows easy, fast and safe access from a moving vessel to offshore structures, even in high waves. The technology was developed over 5 years within the Delft University of Technology, with sponsoring and participation of several international offshore players such as Shell, Boskalis and SMIT. Ampelmann company has 25 Ampelmann systems operational all over the world.
